for Windows XP -
XP and Surf - Timer have
been working very well
together, both in testing
and in the field. An issue
noticed with XP was the
brief appearance of the
task bar when loading in
secure mode. This has now
been corrected. |

Printing
under Windows 2000/XP - In
previous versions, a
limitation existed with
printing under Windows
2000 and XP - it was not
possible to correctly
track the number of pages
printed from the web
browser and external
applications because the
use of the spooler was not
working properly. This has
been corrected in version
3.9. Note that Windows
2000/XP will permit
further improvement of the
printing feature in future
versions. |

parameters related to the
database access have been
optimized, resulting in
faster, more reliable

Based Main Menu
- More
and more people use
web-based main menu with
frames, sub menus, etc...
Improvements were made in
3.9 to make sure the main
menu returns to its
original state after each
user and when no activity
is detected on the mouse/keyboard
for 5 minutes.
Corrupted
Working Area (fixed) -
In some cases the
available working area (screen
available for Surf - Timer)
tended to become corrupted.
The main symptom of this
was the inability to move
the mouse pointer freely
to all areas of the screen.

Advertising
|
New
Option Setting -
Advertising can be
displayed in the form of a
screen saver. In the
previous version, this
meant that any mouse or
keyboard activity would
hide the advertising. In
version 3.9, a new
checkbox labeled "Hide
on Mouse or Keyboard
Activity" was added
on the Advertising tab in
Setsurf - if you uncheck
this box, the advertising
will be displayed unless a
payment is made or an
access code is entered.
This will guarantee more
visibility for your
advertisers. |

Codes |
Registration
Codes - With
previous versions, it was
necessary to unregister
before reinstalling
Windows. This presented a
problem in case of an
oversight or hard drive
crash. In these cases the
only option was to contact
technical support to get
the registration code
re-initialized.
With
version 3.9 this problem
as been eliminated. The
re-loading of a correctly
registered license will
re-initialize the
registration code and the
station will be back at
work. Surf - Timer should
be unregistered when a
major PC component, other
than memory modules, is
being replaced. Failure to
do so will necessitate a
technical support call for
re-initialization.
Also,
the registration code used
is now displayed on the
admin window (the window
which is displayed when
you type the admin
password). This
means you no longer need
to unregister/re-register
to find out the
registration code used on
a PC.

Memory
Optimizations
|
Memory
Monitoring -
Previous versions
monitored memory usage
against the value in Setsurf.
If memory was added and
the Setsurf value was not
updated, the additional
memory was not recognized
by Surf - Timer. Version
3.9 now monitors the
actual available memory.
Thus if the value for
minimum available memory
is set to 4, the PC will
restart (after someone
signs out) whenever the
available memory falls
below 4 MB. This feature
can be disabled by setting
the value to 0.
Memory
Leaks - Memory leaks
related to the use of the
built-in web browser have
been corrected. In prior
versions memory and
handles were not released
after each user and as
such these resources were
unavailable to subsequent
users.

Minute
Maker Pro - A
totally new module
expected to be available
sometime in the latter
part of February. This is
a greatly enhanced version
of account.exe and aimed
primarily at the cyber café
environment. It's most
important feature is the
ability to provide a
detailed account of all
charges and re-charges.
Like Surf -
Timer, Minute Maker Pro
has to be registered. |
